Introducing Freyn II lighting fixture
The iLumtech design team has yet another reason to celebrate as the OMS Lighting succesfully launched the Freyn II lighting fixture. It is the first lighting fixture in serial production designed by Samuel Rihák, supported by the design team of iLumtech. Altough placed at the very opposite end as our recent organic design concepts developed in the Product design department, the Freyn II is fullfilling a slightly different role. It is supposed to be the workohorse of recessed LED lighting fixtures for a wide range of applications. From offices, and classrooms to corridors and showrooms, the main focus is affordability and quick production times that had to be reflected in the design.
To comply with this request, the design is simplistic and utilitarian. The only design element is in fact the shape of the opening cutout, which enables light streaming out from the mixinig chamber. These cutouts have been previously designed as squares, yet adding some angles and separating the cutouts with a tiny sheet of metal created some accent and feeling of identity for the whole product family. The design elements are not disturbing the light output and are helping to recognize the product from far away.
Usually the designers like craete bold concepts without restrictions. That is great, but let us never forget on Bauhaus lectures that design is for everybody, adressing problems of real life with utilitarian forms.
The Freyn II lighting fixture is designed and manufactured in Slovakia.
