Hammer Lamp: combining tradition with contemporary metalwork
Now is a big time for design as we enter the period when design weeks are held around the world. We were recently at Bratislava Design Week and then paid a visit to nearby Vienna Design Week. We found many interesting products, with one catching out eye in particular: the Hammer Lamp, presented by Swiss design studio Big-Game.
When thinking about product design, it is necessary to always keep in mind that products are to be mass-produced in huge factories. But, as that is the case, what happens to the craftsmanship that producers so eagerly try to imitate with their machines?
With the Hammer Lamp, Big-Game aims to connect both concepts in their luminaire, tradition and industrialisation. In the production of the lamp, they are working with Wiener Silber Manufactur, a Viennese silversmith, to hand-produce a limited edition luminaire that combines the art of traditional silversmith work with contemporary metalwork.
However, don’t expect to find this captivating lamp in shops. Special things always come in small numbers, with only 12 solid silver shades and 12 gold-plated shades being made. So if your collectors interest is being piqued, don’t hesitate and find yourself one as soon as possible.
